Obama climate video stars GOP truthsayers

INVERCARGILL, NEW ZEALAND – A priceless video [editors, please insert link here] at barackobama.com, Call Out Climate Deniers In Congress, is herding voters to the GOP.

The video cites a dozen Republican lawmakers talking common sense about climate, followed by Soebarkah talking nonsense. The GOP, which controls the House, has rejected 24 Donkey Party requests to hold climate hearings. The Eeyores are upset.

For the Donkeys:

Ex-Sen. Barry Soetero a.k.a. Soebarkah (D: IL): We can choose to believe that superstorm Sandy and the most severe drought in decades and the worst wildfires some states have ever seen were just a freak coincidence, or we can choose to believe in the overwhelming judgment of science and act before it’s too late [Incorrect: Even the IPCC now admits there has been no global warming for 17 years, so it cannot have caused Sandy or anything else. What has not happened cannot have caused what has. Besides, science is not done by consensus but by measurement and math].

Note:  Lord Monckton’s responses are in bold type.

You make statements on your site that it was Al Gore’s party that had not done enough prior to Katrina. You want us to believe your posts yet this glaring error is on your site. G.W Bush was president and GOP party was in power 4 years prior to the event and 4 years after. How was it the Democratic parties fault at all?

There is no error on our part, let alone a “glaring error”. Responsibility for maintenance of the levees that failed when a mere category 3 hurricane struck lay with the Corps of Engineers, under the direction of the local administration in New Orleans, which was and is Democrat-controlled. I have recently inspected the levees and, though some remedial work (of generally poor quality) is evident, the levees are still not being properly maintained.

You also make many statements alluding to Al Gore lying in his move “Non-Mainstream media” as to say that if other scientist come up with a theory it isn’t valid cause its not part of mainstream science. (more…)

10 killer questions for climate extremists

1. CO2 concentration has risen by 10% in the past 23 years, but the RSS satellite global lower-troposphere temperature-anomaly record shows warming over that period that is statistically indistinguishable from zero. How come?

2. Aristotle, 2350 years ago, demonstrated that to argue from “consensus” is a logical fallacy – the headcount fallacy. Some 95% of all published arguments for alarm about our influence on the climate say we must believe the “consensus”. Why was Aristotle wrong?

3. Aristotle, 2350 years ago, demonstrated that to argue that the “consensus” is a “consensus” of experts is a logical fallacy – the fallacy of appeal to authority. What has changed since 2350 years ago to make argument from appeal to authority acceptable rather than fallacious? (more…)

No Global Warming for Almost Two Decades

Wednesday, January 16th, 2013

by Christopher Monckton

The Science and Public Policy Institute has been asked to comment on the apparent inconsistency between the news that July 2012 was the warmest July since 1895 in the contiguous United States and the news that the Meteorological Office in the UK has cut its global warming forecast for the coming years. The present paper is a response to that interesting question.

Monckton on Climate Change and More

Lord Monckton

British Lord Christopher Monckton is one of the last of a dying breed. A man of varied interests and talents, he is brilliant, articulate, and absolutely sure of himself on the issues of the day. Even the most powerful world leaders are not exempted from criticism; including President Obama, who has been on the receiving end of Viscount Monckton’s scathing remarks.

First and foremost, Christopher Monckton is the world’s leading climate change skeptic and a dedicated foe of the despots who would impose their ruinous agenda on every sovereign Western nation. He stands against the tyrants who seek to redistribute the wealth of the West to the petty dictators who dominate the Third World.

Viscount Monckton came to international attention in the 1980?s as an adviser to British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, when he disputed the honesty and accuracy of the Global Warming evangelists. To call Lord Monckton a skeptic is an major understatement. He sees the climate change movement as nothing less than an attempt by the political elite to punish the First World for many centuries of success and prosperity. (more…)

Thinking Green: Monckton seeks access to Gore, Cortes agrees to meeting

Friday, October 12th, 2012

Source: Gibraltar Chronicle

Lord Monckton, the outspoken critic of environmental guru Al Gore, has formally requested press accreditation to attend the controversial Thinking Green seminar organised by the Gibraltar Government at the Tercentenary Hall on Sunday October 21st.

It already emerged that the former US vice-president and defeated presidential candidate “will not be present or available for any press interviews at any time.”

Convent Place further confirmed that press photographers, TV cameramen and sound recorders “will be asked to leave the hall after five minutes of Mr Gore’s speech.”

Only paying guests to the seminar will therefore be allowed to field questions to Mr Gore after his address. (more…)

Is CO2 mitigation cost-effective?

Australia’s carbon tax: This note, prepared for distinguished scientific delegates at the 2012 annual seminars on planetary emergencies of the World Federation of Scientists, demonstrates the application of a much-simplified method of climate-mitigation investment appraisal to the recently-introduced Australian carbon dioxide tax. For the first time, mainstream climatological and economic-appraisal approaches are combined in a simple but robust appraisal method. The $130 bn cost of the Australian carbon tax (Parliament of Australia, 2011) over the intended ten-year term is compared with its benefit in the cost of warming-related damage avoided by successful implementation and the consequent intended 5% cut in Australia’s emissions. A zero inter-temporal discount rate is assumed. The minimum market rate would be 5% (Murphy et al., 2008). The calculations are made explicit. (more…)

The $6 quadrillion cost of the climate scam

Christopher Monckton of Brenchley on economics of fighting ‘global warming’

ERICE, Sicily – The capture of the once-pure environmental movement by the hard left is far from cheap for the rest of us. I have just told the annual planetary-emergencies conference of the World Federation of Scientists that on the basis of the lunatic anti-CO2 policies now fashionable among scientifically illiterate governments, it would cost $6 quadrillion to prevent the 6 degrees Fahrenheit of predicted “global warming” that will not happen anyway.

Professor Antonino Zichichi, one of the world’s top six particle physicists (he discovered a form of anti-matter 40 years before the multi-billion-dollar Large Hadron Collider did), is the most famous Italian scientist since his hero Galileo. He founded the Federation half a century ago and, at the age of 83, is its president to this day.

Nino looks like a proper scientist. Imagine giving his friend Albert Einstein an electric shock, and that is what his hair looks like. He is fitter than me and attributes his good health to walking an hour every day, not drinking alcohol and not eating lunch (that’s for wimps). He lives in a medieval stone house in the unspoiled, monastic village of Erice, Sicily, perched high on a 2,500-foot crag overlooking the blue Mediterranean. (more…)

New Paper at SPPI: Reply to Climate Extremist

In August 2012, a climate extremist addressed to various skeptical climate researchers what he offensively called “an appeal to you to be reasonable”. Christopher Monckton of Brenchley replied, whereupon the extremist – unable or unwilling to produce a single scientific argument – said he did not wish to pursue the debate further. This paper is an extended version of the reply to the climate extremist.

Be skeptical of Skeptic’s skepticism of skeptics

Monday, July 23rd, 2012

by Lord Christopher Monckton

Be skeptical, be very skeptical, of Skeptic magazine’s skepticism of climate skeptics. The latest issue has, as its cover story, a Climate Change Q&A, revealingly subtitled Climate Deniers’ Arguments & Climate Scientists’ Answers.

The article, written by Dr. Donald Prothero, a geology professor at Occidental College, opens with the bold heading How We Know Global Warming is Real and Human-Caused.

Anyone who starts out by using the hate-speech term “Climate Deniers” – laden with political overtones of Holocaust denial – cannot expect to be taken seriously as an objective scientist.

Despite this promise of “Climate Scientists’ Answers”, only four peer-reviewed papers by climate scientists are cited among the 41 references at the end of the article.

And the implicit notion that “Climate Deniers” are non-scientists while true-believers are “Climate Scientists” is also unreasonable. Many eminent climate scientists are skeptical of the more extremist claims made by the UN’s climate panel, the IPCC. We shall cite some of their work in this response to the Professor’s unscientific article.

Lord Monckton Breaks Down the Rio Conference (Video)

OPINION by Christopher Monckton

Lord Christopher Monckton, chief policy advisor to the Science and Public Policy Institute and former science advisor to Margaret Thatcher, tells The New American from Rio that the just-concluded Rio+20 conference was not about saving the planet or eradicating poverty, but about shackling the plant under global government. He also optimistically stresses that the “pointy heads here in Rio” have failed despite their declaration of success and that “the game is up.” Video produced by http://www.libertynewsnetwork.tv

MAD GIG

To the Gaia-worshipers in Rio, all is symbolic of the new religion

From Christopher Monckton of Brenchley in Rio de Janeiro

Symbolism! Dontcha just love it? Even the three-letter abbreviations for the world’s airports convey a resonant message for the goofy Gaia-worshipers here in Rio de Janeiro for the conference on “sustainable development” (whatever that may mean). Flights still follow the old colonial patterns, so it is easier to fly to Rio (GIG from Madrid (MAD) than from London. Entertainingly, the bag-tag on my suitcase bore the legend MAD GIG –a deftly synoptic description of the leftfest on Brazil’s once-fashionable coast.

The intended triumph of the new religion over the old was symbolized by a light-emitting diode system costing hundreds of thousands of dollars that has turned the normal floodlighting of the towering statue of Christ the Redeemer an unpleasant, lurid green, so that He looks like a giant jelly-bean. Fortunately, Divine intervention (or perhaps the Gore effect) has smothered the volcanic pinnacle on which the statue stands in unseasonably dense cloud and pouring rain, rendering this crude but costly sacrilege altogether invisible. Chalk up ten points to the old religion. God is not mocked. (more…)

Lord Christopher Monckton: Treaty calls for the west to achieve 50 percent CO2 emissions reduction within the next eight years, a feat that would completely bankrupt the global economy and spark a new great depression

The UN Climate Change Summit in Durban has outlined the mandate to “respect the rights of Mother Earth” by paying a “climate debt,” a slush fund to bankroll the activities of a one-world government. I bet you did not know that Mother Earth had rights.

Lord Christopher Monckton said that the treaty “calls for the west to achieve 50 percent CO2 emissions reduction within the next eight years, a feat that would completely bankrupt the global economy and spark a new great depression, as well as a more than 100 percent reduction by 2050, which presumably could only be accomplished by killing billions of humans to prevent them from exhaling carbon dioxide.” (more…)

Monckton: Climate Sensitivity Is About 2 Degrees F

2 F or not 2 F? That is the question

SPPI announces that, by an astonishing 15 distinct methods, Christopher Monckton of Brenchley demonstrates in his latest SPPI technical paper Empirical determination of climate sensitivity that the global warming we can expect in response to the doubling of CO2 concentration that is expected this century will be around 2 F, not the  IPCC’s central estimate of 6 F.

Monckton said: “My commentary shows that there is really no need for any more spending of taxpayers’ money on ‘global warming’. There is not going to be enough of it to matter. That does not seem to be a message the editors of most climate journals want to hear.

Four of the 15 methods of determining climate sensitivity – the amount of warming to be expected if CO2 doubles – are based on looking at recent trends in global temperature. Warming since 1950, when CO2 emissions began in earnest, has occurred at a rate of 2 F per century.  Again, comparing the warming since 1950 with the radiative forcings, climate sensitivity works out at just 2 F.  Doing the same comparison since 1750 also gives a climate sensitivity of 2 F. And if the maximum rate of warming that lasted more than a decade since global temperature records began in 1850 were to become the average rate of warming for the next 90 years, global temperatures would rise by – yes, 2 F.
