Poor countries should hold Big Green groups and directors liable for deaths, ravage they cause

by Paul Driessen

Fossil fuel and insurance company executives “could face personal liability for funding climate denialism and opposing policies to fight climate change,” Greenpeace recently warned several corporations. In a letter co-signed by WWF International and the Center for International Environmental Law, the Rainbow Warriors ($155 million in 2013 global income) suggested that legal action might be possible. Today my young Independent/Democrat-leaning friend Tabitha and I were discussing the Green movement in America. We were on the subject of the manufacturer-killing EPA, massive regulations and the loss of the Keystone Pipeline when she made a very astute observation.

“The US has the cleanest, most heavily regulated drilling and mining facilities on earth, right?” Tabitha asked.

“Yes, absolutely,” I answered.

“So if the Obama administration and all these environmentalists really care about the environment and want a cleaner planet,” she said, “and if they really believe emissions and exhausts from our factories are what’s causing global warming–why would they encourage even one of our oil or mining companies to move overseas?”

I sat in silence a moment, absorbing the complex simplicity of what she was asking. (more…)

White House, environmentalists and U.S foundations seek to block all oil sands development

by Duggan Flanakin and Redmond Weissenberger

Oilfield workers in Alberta, refinery workers in Texas and countless factory workers just learned that the White House will not allow construction of an oil pipeline that would bring over half a million barrels of oil a day from Canada’s Alberta Province and North Dakota’s Bakken Field to refineries in Texas and Louisiana. The job-killing decision was a victory for radical environmentalists and well-heeled U.S. foundations that have long battled Canadian oil sands companies and the U.S. oil and gas industry.

President Obama says Congress gave him insufficient time to examine environmental issues. TransCanada Keystone Pipeline LP can reapply, he added, if it reroutes the pipeline around Nebraska’s Oglala Aquifer and Sand Hills area and addresses other concerns. In the meantime, the Administration insists, the project “would not serve the national interest.(more…)

Why have a number of areas of US science become so politicized?

One answer to this question is that those concerned about science in politics have ceded discussion of issues of science policy to the most overtly partisan, many of whom see science as nothing more than a convenient tool to extract political advantage. This dynamic manifests itself in the overwhelming selectivity of attention among those who purport to be concerned about science in politics.

Follow the Money: 78 Names at the IPCC

Sunday, October 2nd, 2011

Source: NFC

October 1, 2011

In a sensible universe, the list that appears below would be sufficient to vaporize the credibility of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) – now and forever, once and for all.

Beginning in 2004 (around the time that work was beginning on the 2007 Climate Bible) the activist World Wildlife Fund (WWF) systematically began recruiting IPCC scientists. By late 2008 it says it had persuaded 130 “leading climate scientists mostly, but not exclusively from” the IPCC to join its parallel initiative called the Climate Witness Scientific Advisory Panel.

The scientists whose names appear below have not only been examining one of the world’s most important questions for the IPCC. They have a documented, public relationship with professional lobbyists who have a strong interest in influencing this matter. (For readers who are just tuning in, the WWF believes it is “nearly impossible to overstate” the threat posed by climate change – see here, backup link here.)

The people on the list below either played some role in the 2007 Climate Bible or are helping to write the next IPCC report which is expected to be completed in 2013. In many cases, they’re doing dual duty.

On this list are 23 coordinating lead authors – those the IPCC placed in charge of an entire chapter. The list also includes Osvaldo Canziani. Having served as Working Group 2 co-chair for both the 2001 and 2007 reports, he is one of the IPCC’s most senior officials. (more…)

Nancy Pelosi’s Giant Carbon Footprint

A few months ago Judicial Watch, which describes itself as a “a conservative, non-partisan educational foundation, [which] promotes transparency, accountability and integrity in government, politics and the law” summarized the results of its Freedom of Information request for records concerning Nancy Pelosi’s use of Air Force aircraft for her transportation while Speaker of the House.

In addition to reporting that over a two-year period Pelosi’s military travel cost the United States Air Force $2,100,744.59, Judicial Watch also reported that during the period March 2, 2009 through June 7, 2010, “Pelosi used the Air Force aircraft for a total of 85 trips, covering 206,264 miles.”

Considering how much of a problem that Rep. Pelosi (D-Calif.) considers carbon dioxide emissions and climate change to be—recall that she led the effort to push the passage of a cap-and-trade bill through the House of Representatives during the summer of 2009—we thought it be interesting to take a look at what kind of a carbon footprint that sort of travel entailed. The short film, Robert Redford: Hypocrite, was released on Friday, via YouTube, to coincide with the closing days of his Sundance Film Festival. Depending on your point of view, it represented either a cheap hatchet-job or a stunning evisceration of a pioneering green activist who was once lauded on Time Magazine’s list of environmental “superheroes”. America is running out of natural gas. Prices will soar, making imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) and T Boone Pickens’ wind farm plan practical, affordable and inevitable. That was then.

Barely two years later, America (and the world) are tapping vast, previously undreamed-of energy riches – as drillers discover how to produce gas from shale, coal and tight sandstone formations, at reasonable cost. They do it by pumping a water, sand and proprietary chemical mixture into rocks under very high pressure, fracturing or “fracking” the formations, and keeping the cracks open, to yield trapped methane. There is somewhat of a disconnect when we read that industrialisation is proceeding apace in developing nations, with money from the industrialised nations. The announcement from Fiat, Italy, is another example of global corporations moving their operations to the developing world where they can emit to their heart’s content without penalty and get paid by us for doing so, with money we give to the UN for “development”.

“Fiat announced this week that it plans to invest 3 billion Real (approx. 1.7 billion USD) to build a second plant in Brazil, the carmaker’s No. 2 market after its native Italy.” (more…)

Cancun: Global Hysteria, Wealth Redistribution

by Alex Newman

Thousands of climate dignitaries representing almost every national government on Earth flew to Cancun, Mexico, for the great event. Security precautions were extensive: Battleships could be seen from the beach while thousands of soldiers and police lined the jam-packed roads. It was time for the 16th “Conference of the Parties,” or COP16 for short. The annual summit, which was held this year from November 29 through December 10, is an extravaganza of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, or UNFCCC. The previous year’s COP15 in Copenhagen was massive — over 50,000 attendees in all, not counting protesters. It was well publicized, too. But after the spectacular failure of COP15 to deliver a binding climate treaty, and with little hope of securing one this time, expectations for COP16 were purposefully set low. (more…)

WWF hopes to find $60 billion growing on trees

The carbon credits scheme would make WWF and its partners much richer, but with no lowering of overall CO2 emissions, writes Christopher Booker .

If the world’s largest, richest environmental campaigning group, the WWF – formerly the World Wildlife Fund – announced that it was playing a leading role in a scheme to preserve an area of the Amazon rainforest twice the size of Switzerland, many people might applaud, thinking this was just the kind of cause the WWF was set up to promote. Amazonia has long been near the top of the list of the world’s environmental cconcerns, not just because it includes easily the largest and most bio-diverse area of rainforest on the planet, but because its billions of trees contain the world’s largest land-based store of CO2 – so any serious threat to the forest can be portrayed as a major contributor to global warming. The U.S. Bureau of Land Management suspended issuing wind permits on public land indefinitely this summer after wildlife officials invoked a decades-old law for protecting eagles, according to interviews and documents obtained by The Associated Press.

The restriction has stymied efforts to “fast-track” approvals for four of the seven most promising wind energy proposals in the nation, including all three in California.

Now, these and other projects appear unlikely to make the year-end deadline to potentially qualify for hundreds of millions of dollars in stimulus funds. Last year, many of the very same  environmental nutjob elites of the world were stuck in a blizzard in Copenhagen, Denmark as they conducted the 2009 United Nations “summit” on global warming.  Nothing was accomplished.   It would be laughable, except that these radicals and third-world chieftains were trying desperately to get a treaty signed that would sign billions of OUR dollars over to THEM for our “crime” of being industrialized.
