What Happened To The 220,000 Leaked Climatic Research Unit (CRU) Emails?

“It occurred to me….” The truth doesn’t need spin.

On March 13, 2013 someone with the pseudonym Mr. FOIA released the remaining 220,000 emails leaked from the Climatic Research Unit (CRU) at the University of East Anglia (UEA) to a select few. Since then we have heard nothing. Mr. FOIA suggested there was more useful information with examples, such as origin of the term “deniers” applied to those who questioned Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) science. Why hasn’t more information appeared? Has threat of legal action or other intimidation silenced further release and analysis of these emails? (more…)

Fallout from Our Paper: The Empire Strikes Back

LiveScience.com posted an article yesterday where the usual IPCC suspects (Gavin Schmidt, Kevin Trenberth, and Andy Dessler) dissed our recent paper in in the journal Remote Sensing.

Given their comments, I doubt any of them could actually state what the major conclusion of our paper was.

For example, Andy Dessler told LiveScience:

“He’s taken an incorrect model, he’s tweaked it to match observations, but the conclusions you get from that are not correct…”

Well, apparently Andy did not notice that those were OBSERVATIONS that disagreed with the IPCC climate models. And our model can quantitatively explain the disagreement. (more…)

BRIAN LEHRER

I want to introduce to you, Robert Rosenkranz, Chairman of the

Rosenkranz Foundation, the sponsor of this evening’s debate,

who will make some opening remarks. [APPLAUSE]

ROBERT ROSENKRANZ

Thank you, Brian, and, and welcome to all of you. I’m Robert

Rosenkranz, Chairman of Intelligence Squared, which is an

initiative of the Rosenkranz Foundation. With me tonight is Dana

Wolfe, the Executive Producer of this, series of debates. I see a

number of, uh, a lot of familiar faces in the audience but also a

lot of newcomers. So let me just say a word about why we’re,

we’re doing this. It’s really with the intention of raising the level

of public discourse in this country. It comes from a feeling that,

uh, political conversations are just too rancorous and that, this

nation could benefit from a forum for reasoned discussion of, key

policy issues. The topic tonight is, is one that, uh, has attracted

an enormous amount of, of interest. The proposition: Global

warming is not a crisis. And the, panelists are going to try to

persuade you to vote for or against the motion. Uh, ultimately

your votes will decide which side has carried the day. Uh, well,

Rear Mirror: Gavin’s Mystery Man Series of Posts at Climate Audit

by Steve McIntyre

On Sunday, Feb 1 at 4:41 pm Eastern (3:41 blog time), I published a post describing West Antarctic stations. In that post, I observed that there was a very limited amount of station data (6 stations) in the West Antarctica area re-interpreted by Steig et al, that one of the stations (Harry AWS) had an extreme trend (0.81 deg C). I’d noticed some peculiar features about this series, but it was getting late in the day, it was Sunday and I had family things to do in a while, so I ended my post as follows:

Stay tuned for some interesting news about Harry.

The two main things that I’d noticed by then had been 1) a huge difference between the GISS version of Feb 2008 and the current version; and 2) that Harry had been installed in 1994, making the provenance of Harry data prior to 1994 a mystery – which I asked readers to think about around 5 pm Eastern (4 pm blog time). At the time, I said (more than once) that I didn’t know (“dunno”) whether the problems with Harry “mattered” – and that figuring that out would be hard without examining exact code. (more…)

“Hide the decline” in context

Saturday, December 11th, 2010

“Assange adopted Gavin Schmidt’s disinformation about the “trick… to hide the decline”. While the term “trick” can be used to denote a sophisticated mathematical method, it can also denote something as simple and unscrupulous as deleting adverse data. It is necessary to investigate the facts of the matter and the context. In the example of interest, the Climategate correspondents did not use a sophisticated mathematical method; they simply deleted data that didn’t accord with their expectations. The “investigations” ought to have denounced/renounced such methods and their failure to do so is to their shame.”

Climategate: Viscount Monckton Takes a Victory Lap

For several months, the “Monthly CO2 Reports,” compiled by me at www.scienceandpublicpolicy.org, have been pointing out that there has been no statistically significant “global warming” for 15 years. Regular attacks on my calculations and graphs have appeared on blogs by the usual suspects — Gavin Schmidt of NASA being, as usual, the most venomously ad hominem and the least scientifically plausible.

Then came Climategate. Kevin Trenberth, one of the many scientists whose activities I had been following with suspicion for some years, had privately been saying to his colleagues that there had been “no global warming for a decade” and that it was “a travesty” that they could not explain why. Publicly, of course, the Climategate conspirators had been saying that the last ten years were the warmest decade on the instrumental record — true, but not surprising given that there has been 300 years of global warming.
