No Need to Panic About Global Warming

Editor’s Note: The following has been signed by the 16 scientists listed at the end of the article:

[SPPI Note:  SPPI has published papers by all the scientists in bold at the end of this article.]

A candidate for public office in any contemporary democracy may have to consider what, if anything, to do about “global warming.” Candidates should understand that the oft-repeated claim that nearly all scientists demand that something dramatic be done to stop global warming is not true. In fact, a large and growing number of distinguished scientists and engineers do not agree that drastic actions on global warming are needed.

In September, Nobel Prize-winning physicist Ivar Giaever, a supporter of President Obama in the last election, publicly resigned from the American Physical Society (APS) with a letter that begins: “I did not renew [my membership] because I cannot live with the [APS policy] statement: ‘The evidence is incontrovertible: Global warming is occurring. If no mitigating actions are taken, significant disruptions in the Earth’s physical and ecological systems, social systems, security and human health are likely to occur. We must reduce emissions of greenhouse gases beginning now.’ In the APS it is OK to discuss whether the mass of the proton changes over time and how a multi-universe behaves, but the evidence of global warming is incontrovertible?” (more…)

White House, environmentalists and U.S foundations seek to block all oil sands development

by Duggan Flanakin and Redmond Weissenberger

Oilfield workers in Alberta, refinery workers in Texas and countless factory workers just learned that the White House will not allow construction of an oil pipeline that would bring over half a million barrels of oil a day from Canada’s Alberta Province and North Dakota’s Bakken Field to refineries in Texas and Louisiana. The job-killing decision was a victory for radical environmentalists and well-heeled U.S. foundations that have long battled Canadian oil sands companies and the U.S. oil and gas industry.

President Obama says Congress gave him insufficient time to examine environmental issues. TransCanada Keystone Pipeline LP can reapply, he added, if it reroutes the pipeline around Nebraska’s Oglala Aquifer and Sand Hills area and addresses other concerns. In the meantime, the Administration insists, the project “would not serve the national interest.(more…)

UN: Wealth Redistribution Now!

by Dennis Ambler

Time is running out yet again on climate change according to a news article from “The National.ae” There is the usual litany of doomsday events that we invite as a result of our use of fossil fuels for energy.

“Severe droughts and heatwaves, melting of the polar ice caps, dramatic sea level rise and the displacement of millions of people living in island states or low-lying coastal areas may be the unavoidable consequences of global warming.”

But there is hope if we repent in time and spend trillions of dollars on “renewables”: (more…)

UN & EU: Rich and Unaccountable — “A Vast Enterprise of Looting”

Wednesday, January 11th, 2012

by Dennis Ambler

This is a very topical issue, as the UN seeks to pull even more money from the West for its “Contraction and Divergence” programs, via the Green Fund agreed at Copenhagen, restated at Cancun and again at the December UNFCCC Conference of the Parties in Durban.

UN sits on billions in cash, won’t say where it goes

As the UN seeks ever more funding from all of us, to fund so called “Development” and to “Fight Climate Change in Poor Countries”, (such as Brazil, China and India), it turns out that they are sitting on huge hoards of cash and resist attempts by auditors to find out what happens to the money.

This report is by Wendy Wright in the January 5th 2011 edition of Spero News:

“A confidential audit of UNICEF and UNFPA found “gross” failures in transparency and surprisingly billions of dollars of unspent cash. Both agencies refused to disclose information on staff costs and travel. The auditor found that donors have “little knowledge regarding the ultimate destiny” of funds. (more…)

When you’re a climate scientist on top of the world, using taxpayer dollars to socialize with your friends is easy. You just have to be careful to call the social events “symposiums.” What’s not easy, evidently, is using those same taxpayer dollars for beer and wine. Ah, the humanity!

An e-mail sent on June 16, 2008, from Ben Santer to Kevin Trenberth makes this painfully clear:

Anjuli has informed me that it will be possible to use up to $10,000 of my DOE Fellowship for the purpose of funding the Symposium. I’m assuming there may be DOE restrictions on using that money for purchasing wine and beer. I’ll check into this. (more…)

Even the Warmists Don’t Believe In Global Warming

Much was written about the most recent United Nations Climate Change Conference, which was held in Durban, South Africa November 28 through December 9 of this year. However, most commentators gave short shrift to the most important—in a sense, the only—outcome of the meeting. This was, of course, the agreement to hold yet another conference in yet another nice location (Qatar) about a year from now.

The Durban conference was the seventeenth conference of its kind. They have been held annually since 1995 in places such as Geneva (in July 1996) and Bali (in December 2007). Don’t hold your breath for one to be held in Newark, New Jersey, or Fargo, North Dakota. (more…)

German Professor Slams Global Warming Science – Calls Mann’s Hockey Stick “A Very Very Nasty Fabrication”

Michael Krüger at our friends Science Skeptical brings us this jewel of German dissent. Professor Dr. rer. nat. Richard Dronskowski at Aachen University brings loud applause from what appears to be a lecture hall full of his students as he slams the AGW science and the hucksters behind it.

At the 1.10 mark he calls Al Gore’s film An Inconvenient Truth “inconsistent” and reminds us how scientists “warned of cooling” in 1970s. At the 2.25 mark he brings up Michael Mann’s hockey stick chart:

No chart has been so falsified as the hockey stick chart. It’s an embarrassment for the IPCC.” (more…)

Obama: “Reward our friends, punish our enemies.”

by Peter Schweizer

When President-elect Obama came to Washington in late 2008, he was outspoken about the need for an economic stimulus to revive a struggling economy. He wanted billions of dollars spent on “shovel-ready projects” to build roads; billions more for developing alternative-energy projects; and additional billions for expanding broadband Internet access and creating a “smart grid” for energy consumption. After he was sworn in as president, he proclaimed that taxpayer money would assuredly not be doled out to political friends. “Decisions about how Recovery Act dollars are spent will be based on the merits,” he said, referring to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. “Let me repeat that: decisions about how recovery money will be spent will be based on the merits. They will not be made as a way of doing favors for lobbyists.”

The Bizarre World of Radical Climate Science

By Norman Rogers

Imagine that you are a climate scientist and the Earth is threatened with a climate disaster.  You need to warn the people of Earth and lobby Earth’s governments.  If you are tired of poring over boring computer printouts, you may be only too ready to accept this mission of transcendent importance.

On the other hand, maybe you have lost touch with reality.  Maybe you have become a true believer fighting a dubious battle.  Maybe you are Dr. James Hansen, high civil servant, recipient of cash awards from left-wing foundations, and director of the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies.  Hansen was arrested in front of the White House, dressed up to look like J. Robert Oppenheimer, the 1950s scientific martyr.  Hansen wants CEOs of energy companies to be prosecuted for “crimes against humanity.” (more…)

Who’s Bankrolling the Climate Change Fanatics?

Thursday, October 6th, 2011

Time Magazine is accusing climate change deniers of a vast right-wing conspiracy of deceit that threatens to subvert efforts protecting the Earth from eco-catastrophe. In “Who’s Bankrolling the Climate-Change Deniers?” Bryan Walsh bemoans the fact that only a few years ago Republicans such as John McCain and Mitt Romney supported government cap-and-trade programs to restrict industrial emissions of so-called greenhouse gases (GHG) but are now backpedaling. He cites polls showing a growing number of conservatives in the deniers’ camp. “That’s deeply troubling,” Walsh laments, “… despite an overwhelming scientific consensus” confirming imminent calamity. How the WWF Infiltrated the IPCC – Parts 1 & 2

Saturday, September 24th, 2011
by Donna Laframboise
What is the WWF?
In the United States and Canada the initials WWF stand for the World Wildlife Fund. Elsewhere, this organization calls itself the World Wide Fund for Nature.

The WWF is an activist lobby group. On its website one finds declarations such as:

It is nearly impossible to overstate the threat of climate change. [see here, backup link here]

WWF’s vision of an eco-friendly future includes an entirely new layer of regulation, bureaucracy, and international law. Or, as the WWF phrases it:

a global legal framework…to ensure that governments can verify each other’s actions. [see here, backup link here]

Members of the voting public have never been asked if they want to pay for this new layer of bureaucracy, if they want to live under its restrictions, or if they think it’s even a good idea. The WWF you see, knows what’s best for all of us. (more…)

David Suzuki -- anti-science alarmist

By David R. Legates

As the climate scare fizzles, Canada’s celebrity environmentalist resorts to ad hominem attacks

[To see who is really being paid off:

 http://scienceandpublicpolicy.org/blog_watch/the_money_trail.html?Itemid=0  and  http://scienceandpublicpolicy.org/originals/climate_money.html?Itemid=0  ]

David Suzuki has never met, debated or even spoken with my colleague, scientist Willie Soon. But as more people dismiss Mr. Suzuki’s scare stories about global warming cataclysms, the more he has resorted to personal attacks against Mr. Soon and others who disagree with him.

Mr. Soon’s brilliant research into the sun’s role in climate change has helped make millions aware that carbon dioxide’s influence is far less than Mr. Suzuki wants them to think. In a recent column picked up by media outlets around North America, including Huffington Post, Mr. Suzuki attacked Mr. Soon, my fellow scientist, mostly by recycling a Greenpeace “investigation” that is itself nothing more than a rehash of tiresome (and libelous) misstatements, red herrings and outright lies. It’s time to set the record straight. (more…)

Obama’s Exclusive George Soros Waivers

Friday, July 29th, 2011

Source: Townhall

“Millionaires and billionaires,” President Obama says derisively, must make more “sacrifices” and live by the same rules the rest of America lives by. But there are seven little words that will never appear on the White House teleprompter: “And that means you, too, George Soros.”

For all his (and his wife’s) bashing of greedy Wall Street hedge-fund managers, Obama has shown nothing but love to the world’s most famous hedge-fund mogul. The feeling is mutual and deep(-pocketed).

Soros and his family shelled out $250,000 for Obama’s inauguration, $60,000 in direct campaign contributions and untold millions more to liberal activist groups pushing the White House agenda. While the class warrior-in-chief assails conniving financiers who exploit loopholes and corporate titans who imperil the planet, he lets the Soros exemptions to his attack-the-rich rules slide like butter on a hot plate. We Get What We Pay For With Disastrous Climate Science

Wednesday, July 27th, 2011

Source: Forbes

by Larry bell

A rapidly growing number of Americans are coming to distrust “scientific” climate report conclusions that emanate from authoritarian government and institutional sources — often with good reason. Such skepticism has arisen in part from revelations of conspiracies among influential researchers to exaggerate the existence and threats of man-made climate change, withhold background data and suppress contrary findings evidenced in the “ClimateGate” scandal.

Other doubt is legitimately fueled by direct observations. We commonly witness alarmist claims based upon short-term warming events, while other equally notable cooling episodes are dismissed in importance, attributed to warming, or cited as proof of disturbing “climate change.”

Who pays for all this bad science, and worse, news? We do, of course. And it doesn’t come cheap. According to data compiled by Joanne Nova at the Science and Public Policy Institute, the U.S. Government spent more than $32.5 billion on climate studies between 1989 and 2009. This doesn’t count about $79 billion more spent for related climate change technology research, foreign aid and tax breaks for “green energy.” (more…)

A professor speaks out: money has corrupted our global warming debate

Monday, July 25th, 2011

Source:  Herald Sun (Australia)

Australian physicist Professor Brian J O’Brien has worked on the Apollo moon missions. In this interview with the ABC, just 8:15 from the end, he suddenly cuts loose on man-made global warming, and commits a series of heresies that pin back the ears of the interviewer.

- It’s been wildly exaggerated. When he first started researching the topic, “I got rather frightened at the exaggerations that were going around.”

- It’s “certainly not proven” than man is largely to blame for any warming.

- “The sad part was that there were no senior scientists that were independent” in the field. (more…)
