ambler - global economySource:  No Frakking Consensus

by Donna Laframboise

A fanatic, said Winston Churchill, is someone “who can’t change his mind and won’t change the subject.” That’s an apt description of senior United Nations personnel.

Last week, I listened as Ban Ki-moon, the head of the UN, addressed a room full of other UN personnel in Warsaw, Poland. His remarks followed those of Achim Steiner, who’s in charge of the United Nations Environment Programme, and Michel Jarraud, who leads the World Meteorological Association.

Those two organizations happen to be the parents of a third UN body – the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Ban Ki-moon mentioned it in his speech. Indeed, he went so far as to assure the assembled crowd that while the UN had been “very much troubled by science skeptics” just “a couple of years ago,” the recent release of the new IPCC report had put an end to all that.

There is now, he said, “much more clarity.” It “is a scientific finding” that climate change is humanity’s fault. (more…)

UN’s Ban Ki Moon seeks Climate Change Blockbuster

The UN is becoming increasingly desperate at their failure to convince the “man in the street” about global warming, particularly since the weather is refusing to co-operate over the last few years. They are now seeking to enroll the entertainment industry into their propaganda war and Ban Ki Moon breezed into Hollywood this week to meet writers, directors and producers. The taxpayer of course pays for all these junkets via national contributions to the UN.

U.N. leader asks Hollywood for help in fight against global climate change

By Margot Roosevelt, Los Angeles Times February 27, 2011

“Ban Ki-moon, the normally buttoned-up Secretary General of the United Nations, swept into Los Angeles during Oscar week playing the role of Hollywood pitchman. His message: Make global warming a hot issue.

“I need your support,” he told entertainment industry insiders during a daylong forum Tuesday that focused on recent heat waves, floods, fires and drought, which scientists link to human-induced climate change.

“Animate these stories!” Ban pleaded. “Set them to music! Give them life! Together we can have a blockbuster impact on the world.” (more…)

UN Sec. Gen. – Capitalism is “Environmental Suicide” Says “We Need a Revolution”

UN Secretary General, Ban-Ki Moon has launched an astonishing attack on the current economic system of Western-style capitalsim, saying that it was dangerous and outdated in the light of global warming, and calling for a new economic paradigm.

Recent reports have noted that Ban-Ki Moon has said he will take a hands-off approach to global warming, and many have interpreted this to mean that he will leave it to the scientists and national Governments to decide.

But his latest comments, reported in The Guardian, make it clear that instead Ban-Ki Moon is switching from a narrow focus on global warming to a much wider spectrum attack on the current Western style of capitalism generally, on the grounds that it is not environmentally sustainable. The Guardian reports: (more…)

After a Year of Setbacks, U.N. Looks to Take Charge of World’s Agenda

by George Russell

After a year of humiliating setbacks, United Nations Secretary General Ban ki-Moon and about 60 of his top lieutenants — the top brass of the entire U.N. system — spent their Labor Day weekend at a remote Austrian Alpine retreat, discussing ways to put their sprawling organization in charge of the world’s agenda.

Details concerning the two-day, closed-door sessions in the comfortable village of Alpbach were closely guarded. Nonetheless, position papers for the meeting obtained by Fox News indicate that the topics included:

– how to restore “climate change” as a top global priority after the fiasco of last year’s Copenhagen summit;

how to continue to try to make global redistribution of wealth the real basis of that climate agenda, and widen the discussion further to encompass the idea of “global public goods”;

– how to keep growing U.N. peacekeeping efforts into missions involved in the police, courts, legal systems and other aspects of strife-torn countries;

– how to capitalize on the global tide of migrants from poor nations to rich ones, to encompass a new “international migration governance framework”;

– how to make “clever” use of new technologies to deepen direct ties with what the U.N. calls “civil society,” meaning novel ways to bypass its member nation states and deal directly with constituencies that support U.N. agendas. (more…)

Laugh Riot: 190-year climate ‘tipping point’ issued — Despite fact that UN began 10-Year ‘Climate Tipping Point’ in 1989!

Climate Depot Factsheet on Inconvenient History of Global Warming ‘Tipping Points’ — Hours, Days, Months, Years, Millennium — Earth ‘Serially Doomed’

Once again, the world is being warned of a climate “tipping point.” The latest bout of stern warnings comes from a survey of 14 climate “experts.”

Get ready, we only have 190 years! Scientists ‘expect climate tipping point’ by 2200 – UK Independent – June 28, 2010 – Excerpt: “13 of the 14 experts said that the probability of reaching a tipping point (by 2200) was greater than 50 per cent, and 10 said that the chances were 75 per cent or more.”

Such silliness. It’s difficult to keep up whether it is hours, days, months or 1000 years. Here are few recent examples of others predicting climate “tipping points” of various durations. (more…)
