Source: Gibraltar Chronicle

Lord Monckton, the outspoken critic of environmental guru Al Gore, has formally requested press accreditation to attend the controversial Thinking Green seminar organised by the Gibraltar Government at the Tercentenary Hall on Sunday October 21st.

It already emerged that the former US vice-president and defeated presidential candidate “will not be present or available for any press interviews at any time.”

Convent Place further confirmed that press photographers, TV cameramen and sound recorders “will be asked to leave the hall after five minutes of Mr Gore’s speech.”

Only paying guests to the seminar will therefore be allowed to field questions to Mr Gore after his address. (more…)

Historical Trends of African Glacier Dynamics

Kilimanjaro, the highest free-standing mountain in the world, was long renowned for its summit glaciers, immortalized by Ernest Hemingway in his famous short story “The Snows of Kilimanjaro.” Over the first few years of the current century, its disappearing summit ice fields were once again made famous, this time by political luminaries such as Al Gore, Hillary Clinton and John McCain, who cited them as unmistakable evidence of the deleterious consequences of human-induced global warming.

On the floor of the U.S. Senate during debate on Senate Bill 139 back in 2004, for example, Arizona Senator John McCain called this attribution not only a fact, but a fact “that cannot be refuted by any scientist.”

Then in subsequent debate on the same bill, former New York Senator Hillary Clinton echoed Senator McCain’s sentiments. Displaying a set of photos taken from the same vantage point in 1970 and 1999 – the first depicting “a 20-foot-high glacier” and the second “only a trace of ice” – she said that in those pictures “we have evidence in the most dramatic way possible of the effects of 29 years of global warming.”

Nevertheless, and in spite of the absolute certitude with which the two senators expressed their views on the subject – which allowed for no “wiggle room” whatsoever – scientific analyses have shown both of them to be as wrong as they could possibly be.

Israeli professor says global warming caused by sun, not man

By Danny Bloom

CHIAYI CITY, Taiwan — After I wrote a commentary here on June 3, 2012 about global warming and climate change and what all this might mean for the future existence of Israel as a state in the arid Middle East, an Israeli scientist that I contacted told me that he thought I was barking up the wrong tree and was wrong about global warming.  This led to what, for me, was a fascinating e-dialogue.

I met Professor Emeritus Giora Shaviv, the Swartzmann-Medvedi chair in Space Sciences at The Technion in Haifa after coming across a 2009 news article in the Jewish Chronicle in London headlined “Israeli scientist denies global warming.”

Although Dr Shaviv and I don’t see eye to eye on this, I wanted to find out more about his ideas and climate views, after reading this opening lines of the London story: “A leading Israeli scientist has renounced the concept of man-made global warming at a lecture given to the British Technion Society, just days before world leaders meet to discuss ways to halt it. Professor Giora Shaviv professor of physics at the Technion, claimed that the accepted level of carbon dioxide in the air is wildly exaggerated.” (more…)

Flashback: Who Owns These Two Houses?

Original posting date:  04/28/2009

Neither you nor I will ever be able to own a house like either of these.

However, it does provide us with a startling example of environmental friendliness that may raise your eyebrows.

Keep in mind, the average size for a family home in the U.S. is around 2300 square feet.

This image shows a 20 room mansion (not including 8 bathrooms) heated by natural gas. Add on a pool (and a pool house) and a separate guest house, all heated by gas. In one month, this residence consumes more energy than the average American household does in a year. The average bill for electricity and natural gas runs over $2400 per month. In natural gas alone, this property consumes more than 20 times the national average for an American home. This house is not situated in a Northern or Midwestern ‘snow belt’ area. It’s in the South. Monumental fault in manmade global warming notion hiding in plain sight

I don’t mean promoters of the issue comically spinning failed predictions for more frequent hurricanes and warmer snow-less winters into covering any hot/cold/wet/dry extremes. Or Al Gore’s Texas-sized carbon footprint undermining demands for ours to to be minuscule. Sure, the IPCC also has appearance problems as a supposedly ‘unbiased’ organization, caught red-handed with assessments authored by people in environmentalist groups, and its own “ClimateGate” scientists behaving badly doesn’t help, either.

We have an arguably more far reaching problem – one that imperils the issue itself, and the mainstream media’s basic integrity. (more…)

Al Gore won’t hear it, but heavenly bodies might be driving long-term weather trends.

By ANNE JOLIS

In April 1990, Al Gore published an open letter in the New York Times “To Skeptics on Global Warming” in which he compared them to medieval flat-Earthers. He soon became vice president and his conviction that climate change was dominated by man-made emissions went mainstream. Western governments embarked on a new era of anti-emission regulation and poured billions into research that might justify it. As far as the average Western politician was concerned, the debate was over.

But a few physicists weren’t worrying about Al Gore in the 1990s. They were theorizing about another possible factor in climate change: charged subatomic particles from outer space, or “cosmic rays,” whose atmospheric levels appear to rise and fall with the weakness or strength of solar winds that deflect them from the earth. These shifts might significantly impact the type and quantity of clouds covering the earth, providing a clue to one of the least-understood but most important questions about climate. Heavenly bodies might be driving long-term weather trends. (more…)

Gore: AGW Skeptics are like Racists

Monday, August 29th, 2011

One day climate change skeptics will be seen in the same negative light as racists, or so says former Vice President Al Gore.

In an interview with former advertising executive and Climate Reality Project collaborator Alex Bogusky broadcast on UStream on Friday, Gore explained that in order for climate change alarmists to succeed, they must “win the conversation” against those who deny there is a crisis. Morano on Al Gore

[Climate Depot Comment: 'This is psychologically healthy development for Gore. He needs to face the reality that despite his film, an Oscar, a Nobel, a compliant shoddy news media, the UN, Hollywood, untold tens of billions of dollars spent, propaganda directed at school kids, and twisted science - the movement Gore helped found, is dying scientifically, politically and economically. It is time to celebrate the utter and complete failure of the sub-prime science of man-made global warming.' More analysis on why Gore has failed here.]

Defeated Gore unleashes: ‘It’s no longer acceptable in mixed company, meaning bipartisan company, to use the goddamn word ‘climate’…we cannot possibly come to an agreement on it’

Gore: ‘They have polluted it to the point where we cannot possibly come to an agreement on it’

Gore laments his failure: ‘When you go and talk to any audience about climate, you hear them washing back at you the same crap over and over and over again’ (more…)

To Kill IPCC, Cut the Cash

UN climate chief promotes carbon trading in Africa

I would suggest that many people think that the UN policies on “global warming/climate change/wealth re-distribution, emissions trading, etc” emerge only from the annual Conferences of the Parties, (COPS), such as Copenhagen and Cancun, but I would guess that not many are aware of the regular policy forums and meetings which occur almost on a monthly basis, driving forward the climate agenda, regardless of the serious and frequent blows dealt to the purported science behind that agenda.

If you thought the nonsense was all over, forget it. Take a look at the UNFCCC website where they are already in preparation for the COP 17 event in Durban, South Africa, from November 28th 2011 to December 9th 2011. Read the press release from the UN Climate Change Conference held last month in Bonn:

“A central political question that has crystallized during this session is how further emission reduction commitments by developed countries can be taken forward in the broader context of the emerging climate change regime, said United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Executive Secretary Christiana Figueres. The Log in the Eye of Greenpeace

Matthew 7:5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.

As Greenpeace publishes yet another attack on a reputable scientist, (Dr Willie Soon), who happens to disagree with the IPCC, they again ignore the massive funding going into the “green” movement, from corporations including “big oil”, foundations and governments.

Their constant attacks on the integrity of  genuine scientists are classic diversionary tactics to avoid close examination of the millions of dollars going into the Global Warming project. A commentary by David and Amy Ridenour in the Washington Times of June 14th last year, showed the major extent of funding to environmental groups by BP, who were being attacked by those same groups over the oil spill in the Gulf.

BP was also a founding member of the U.S. Climate Action Partnership, (not the same as the Climate Action Network) contributing substantial funding to the climate-change-related lobbying efforts of the environmental groups within it, which include the Environmental Defense Fund, Natural Resources Defense Council, the Nature Conservancy and the World Resources Institute. Some years ago–1997 in fact–I was invited to participate in a climate change group grope in Denver hosted by former Colorado Senator Tim Wirth, who left the Senate first for a Clinton Administration State Department post, and then to be the head of the UN Foundation, an entity set in motion by Ted Turner’s billion-dollar pledge to the United Nations–a pledge that Turner later had to renege on after his fortunes shrank in the aftermath of the disastrous AOL-Time Warner merger. But that’s another story. (more…)

Al Gore: Conspiracy Theorist

[SPPI Note: see our paper by Cook: http://scienceandpublicpolicy.org/images/stories/papers/originals/are_skeptic_scientists_corrupt.pdf

by Russell Cook

When the public learns about huge faults in the skeptic scientist accusation, combined with the faults in the IPCC, the result may send AGW into total collapse.

Guest post submitted by Russell Cook

I’m preaching to the choir here when I say appearances of people hiding AGW’s problems beg for clichés – the emperor has no clothes, pay no attention to the man behind the curtain, nothing to see here, move along. But I’m not a scientist, nor do I have a scintilla of expertise to say with any authority that the IPCC is wrong and skeptic scientists are right.

The one thing I can do is offer an ordinary citizen’s informed view of what the barrier is preventing skeptics’ viewpoints from being heard, and how that barrier can turn from the paper-thin success story it is into a cancer that has the potential to wipe out the entire ideology of AGW. (more…)

Al Gore and Population Control

Thursday, June 23rd, 2011

Source: Daily Caller

The global warming debate has always been a touchy one for both sides, and when the world’s top global warming activist is talking about the size of population and how that contributes to the choices societies make, it might be worth taking note.

In an appearance Monday in New York City, former Vice President Al Gore, prominently known for his climate change activism, took on the subject of population size and the role of society in controlling it to reduce pollution.

He offered some ideas about what might be done for females in the name of stabilizing population growth. (h/t Chris Horner via wattsupwiththat.com)

“One of the things we could do about it is to change the technologies, to put out less of this pollution, to stabilize the population, and one of the principle ways of doing that is to empower and educate girls and women,” Gore said. “You have to have ubiquitous availability of fertility management so women can choose how many children have, the spacing of the children.

“You have to lift child survival rates so that parents feel comfortable having small families and most important — you have to educate girls and empower women,” he said. “And that’s the most powerful leveraging factor, and when that happens, then the population begins to stabilize and societies begin to make better choices and more balanced choices.”

Getting control of school boards before they groom the next generation of Democrats and green parasites

by Daniel Horowitz

It’s not like Maryland Democrats haven’t worked assiduously to earn the distinction of ‘least free state in the country‘ for their beloved Free State.

Maryland high school students will now be required to pass green proficiency requirements in order to graduate.  The Maryland state board of education will  require public schools within the state to weave in eco-socialist propaganda to the general science curriculum.  Sadly, due to flaccid opposition and complacency on the part of all of us, public schools across the country have already been doing this for quite some time.  Maryland is merely the first state to consummate those requirements as part of the “official curriculum.”  The Baltimore Sun reports: (more…)
