What NPR insiders say when they think no one is listening?: “We know exactly, on the science desk, what the answer is”
[5-minute video, uploaded Mar. 2011] NPR fundraising officers discuss why those who question global warming (aka climate change) will only be covered as a political story not as a science story.
Quotes from the video: “This funder said to us ‘you know, we would like to support your environmental coverage, but we really don’t want to give you money if you’re gonna talk to the people who think that climate change has not happened'”.
“Is the world flat? Is that the next question that we’re going to debate?”
“All educated scientists have accepted climate change as fact“. “Our point of view requires that we cover that [political] debate, if for no other reason than to have Americans understand there are still people who believe that it’s not a fact…if you’re gonna vote, at some point, you wanna know what your opposition believes…it’s critically important from a political point of view that we cover that debate and that we put voices on from both sides of that debate. Not because we’re trying to say, could be one or could be the other. We know exactly, on the science desk, what the answer is. We need to show people what those people are saying who deny climate change because they’re going to come up for election in your state”
