The Establishment Media Grows Skeptical Of Obama?s Climate Claims

Monday, September 29th, 2014

Is the establishment media finally getting tired of President Obama?s grandstanding on global warming? Some news outlets responded skeptically to Obama?s United Nations climate speech.

On Tuesday, Obama spoke before UN delegates in New York City, trying to rally countries to restrict fossil fuel use and cut carbon dioxide emissions. The speech was hailed by some in the media, but less warmly received by others.

An Associated Press ?fact-check? of Obama?s speech found it to be a lot of ?spin? on climate statistics, from his claims on U.S. emissions reductions to his supposedly ?new? efforts to tackle global warming. (more…)

Journal Reviews
Dying from Heat and Cold in Australia: With daily minimum temperatures rising so much faster than daily maximum temperatures all around the world, global warming – if it ever resumes after its nearly two-decade hiatus – should lead to less temperature-related mortality in most parts of the planet, as has historically been observed in Australia.

Modeling Daily Intense Rainfall Events over Africa: “State-of-the-art climate models still cannot realistically simulate daily intense rainfall events with high accuracy.”

Modeling Caribbean Precipitation: How Well Is It Being Done?: Both CMIP3 and CMIP5 models still have some perplexing problems that need to be resolved.

Dying From Heat in New York City: Petkova et al.’s discovery that the excess mortality originally experienced at high temperatures was substantially reduced over the course of the century they studied is indicative, in their words, of “population adaptation to heat in recent decades.” (more…)

Politically Left Scientist Dissents ? Calls President Obama ?delusional? on global warming

Climate Statistics Professor Dr. Caleb Rossiter of American University: ‘Obama has long been delusional on this issue. Anyone who believes we are in a climate catastrophe I think is deluding themselves.’

Rossiter on his conversion to a climate skeptic: ‘You are very isolated on the Democratic Party on the left ? one is, I am ? for having this conclusion of analysis…I would say since 2004 I?ve been very lonely. I?ve been lonely working on the Hill for the Democratic Party.’

Rossiter on Gore’s film: ‘I think it?s a wonderful teaching tool because it shows how we don’t do science. Gore?s irresponsible.’

On Gore winning the Nobel: ‘Worst Nobel Prize for peace since Henry Kissinger.’

Rossiter: ‘My blood simply boils too hot when I read the blather, daily, about climate catastrophe. It boggles the mind that I could be certain that I know what caused a half degree rise in the last hundred fifty years. It?s simply not large enough to find a physical cause.’

Kerry: Climate change as urgent as ISIS, Ebola

Secretary of State John Kerry said the threats posed by climate change should be addressed with as much “immediacy” as confronting the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), and the Ebola outbreak.

During a meeting with foreign ministers on Sunday, Kerry said global warming is creating “climate refugees.”

“We see people fighting over water in some places. There are huge challenges to food security and challenges to the ecosystem, our fisheries and … the acidification of the ocean is a challenge for all of us,” Kerry said.

“And when you accrue all of this, while we are confronting ISIL and we are confronting terrorism and we are confronting Ebola and other things, those are immediate,” he added, using an alternate acronym for the terrorist group.  (more…)

The Pretzel Logic of Global Warming

By Brian C Joondeph, MD

Scientific inquiry is challenging. One must make observations, then create a hypothesis to explain these observations. Once the hypothesis predicts future observations, conclusions are reached about cause and effect of the aforementioned observations. This is called the scientific method.

It?s far easier to play this out in reverse. Decide upon the desired conclusion and work backwards, concocting a hypothesis that somehow manages to use contradictory observations to bolster the foregone conclusion. This is the type of pretzel logic that global warming scientists use to convince us to, ?believe us, not your thermometer.?

How else could this sentence lead a recent article on global warming? ?Scientists now believe that global warming is to blame for extreme cold snaps in North America during the winter months.? I suppose by this logic excessive rainfall causes droughts. (more…)

With global conflict at the door, world leaders pursue futile climate efforts

Left more afraid of global warming than ISIS

Left more afraid of global warming than ISIS

On September 23, representatives from 190 nations will gather at the Climate Summit 2014 at United Nations headquarters in New York City, including 125 heads of state. President Obama and other world leaders will attend to discuss the urgent problem of climate change, seeking common ground in preparation for a ?meaningful global agreement in 2015.? At the same time, Europe is threatened by conflict in Eastern Ukraine and ISIS beheads US citizens in the Middle East.

With regard to ISIS, President Obama recently addressed the nation, but many have said that the President?s strategy is still unclear. However, the President does have a strategy for a global climate change agreement. It was reported last month that the Obama administration is pursuing a global accord to compel nations to cut their greenhouse gas emissions. (more…)

The U.N.?s Climate-Summit Charade

Western nations keep the talks going, to justify costly de-carbonization programs at home.

At a perilous juncture in world affairs and with the international system visibly breaking down ? the first forcible annexation of European territory since Hitler?s war; a bunch of fanatics and psychopaths, perpetrators of a double genocide, seizing control of a vast swath of the Levant, and American leadership exhausted ? the U.N. secretary general, Ban Ki-moon, is convening a summit of world leaders to discuss, of all things, global warming. True, former secretary of state Hillary Clinton calls it the most consequential and urgent set of challenges facing the world, but the leaders of Canada, Germany, China, and India appear not to agree and are giving next week?s meeting in New York a pass. What if the Global Warming ?Pause? was ?Fast Forward? Instead?

Monday, September 22nd, 2014

by Roy Spencer

I?d like to take you through a little thought experiment.

We all know that global warming has been on hiatus ? set on pause ? however you like to characterize the lack of significant warming, for over 15 years. Depending on how you do the statistics, the vast majority of the climate models used to guide our energy policy have over-predicted the surface warming trend since the satellite record began way back in 1979.

Oh, and those aren?t just failed forecasts?they are failed hindcasts. Even knowing the answer, the climate modelers can?t explain why the Earth hasn?t warmed as fast as it was supposed to.

The most cited potential reason for this unexpected inconvenience is that the oceans have been taking up the extra heat and replacing it with cooler water from the ocean depths. In that scenario, the natural ocean surface-cooling mechanism now in progress (if it exists) will eventually go back to normal, and surface warming will return with a vengeance. Just you wait and see. (more…)

Reflections on Rapid Response to Unjustified Climate Alarm

Captain Dreyfus

The Cato Institute?s Center for the Study of Science today kicks off its rapid response center that will identify and correct inappropriate and generally bizarre claims on behalf of climate alarm. I wish them luck in this worthy enterprise, but more will surely be needed to deal with this issue.

To be sure, there is an important role for such a center. It is not to convince the ?believers.? Nor do I think that there is any longer a significant body of sincere and intelligent individuals who are simply trying to assess the evidence. As far as I can tell, the issue has largely polarized that relatively small portion of the population that has chosen to care about the issue. The remainder quite reasonably have chosen to remain outside the polarization. Thus the purpose of a rapid response Center will be to reassure those who realize that this is a fishy issue, that there remain scientists who are still concerned with the integrity of science. There is also a crucial role in informing those who wish to avoid the conflict as to what is at stake. While these are important functions, there are other issues that I feel a think tank ought to consider. Moreover, there is a danger that rapid response to trivial claims lends unwarranted seriousness to these claims.  (more…)

What really drives anti-fracking zealots?

They want to end fossil fuels and capitalism, control our lives and impose eco-utopia

by Paul Driessen

Recent news stories underscore the tremendous benefits brought by America?s fracking revolution.

* The shale oil production boom could boost US crude production to 9.5 million barrels of oil per day (bopd) next year, reducing America?s crude oil imports to 21% of domestic demand, the lowest level since 1968. Output from fracked wells represents 43% of all US oil production and 67% of natural gas production; ?frack oil? could hit 10 million bopd by 2016, the Energy Information Administration says.

* The global economy saves $4.9 billion per day in oil spending because of the shale oil boom. Without it there would be a 3 million barrel per day shortfall and prices would likely be 55% higher: $150/barrel. (more…)

New Paper: The 97% ?Consensus? And Its Critics

Monday, September 22nd, 2014

Source: GWPF Bogus

Claims of 97% consensus on global warming depend on research described as fraudulent and biased

A new briefing note published today by the Global Warming Policy Foundation examines claims made by a great many commentators across the world, including President Obama and Ed Davey, of an overwhelming consensus on climate change. These depend on research that has been subject to public and entirely unrebutted allegations that it is fraudulent.

Although the authors of the research claim to have shown that most climate change papers accept that mankind is responsible for the majority of recent warming, in fact the underlying study shows no such thing.

One senior climatologist described the paper as ?poorly conceived, poorly designed and poorly executed?. Another researcher called it ?completely invalid and untrustworthy?, adding that there was evidence of scientific fraud.

Andrew Montford, the author of the briefing note, said: ?It has now been shown beyond doubt that the claims of a 97% consensus on climate change are at best misleading, perhaps grossly so, and possibly deliberately so. It?s high time policymakers stopped citing this appalling study.?
