Warmers Use Magic to Create the Illusion of Science

“Sire, I have been misunderstood.I will explain. There are two kinds of prophecy. One is the gift to foretell things that are but a little way off, the other is the gift to foretell things that are whole ages and centuries away.Which is the mightier gift, do you think?”?Hank Morgan, the Connecticut Yankee, in A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur?s Court

In Mark Twain?s classic A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur?s Court, Hank Morgan, who calls himself the Yankee of the Yankees, uses science over and over to create the illusion of magic to support the notion that he is in fact the mightiest magician of all-time. In the end, the illusion, along with misapplied technology is what does him in.

Today, global warmists use magic to create the illusion of science, misapplying technology along the way. And those illusion are killing them right now.

Yesterday I wrote about how increasingly frustrated global warming alarmists were, practically throwing tantrums as real-time data shows that global warming models do not accurately model temperatures.

Their illusions, in other words, are being increasingly shown as delusions. (more…)

The EPA’s Agenda: Undermine Capitalism and America

By Alan Caruba
The Environmental Protection Agency has been in a full assault on the U.S. economy since the 1980s when the global warming hoax was initiated. It has been assisted by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and NASA.
To put it in other terms, our own government has engaged in lying to Americans and the result has been the expenditure of billions of taxpayer dollars on something that was not happening and is not happening.
On January 22, the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee released the deposition transcript of former senior EPA official John Beale. After defrauding the agency of nearly $900,000 and spending weeks and months away from his office by claiming he was on assignment for the CIA, the transcript contained a bombshell. (more…)

New paper at SPPI: The Scientific Method

Science is supposed to take place by the use of the ?Scientific Method? defined in the following way.

THE FREE DICTIONARY ?The principles and empirical processes of discovery and demonstration considered characteristic of or necessary for scientific investigation, generally involving the observation of phenomena, the formulation of a hypothesis concerning the phenomena, experimentation to demonstrate the truth or falseness of the hypothesis, and a conclusion that validates or modifies the hypothesis?

Neil Young?s Hiroshima ? Exhibit #10 in the Drama Queen Files

Rockstar?s rhetoric about Canada?s oil sands is intemperate, offensive, and ill-informed.

When an argument is intellectually shallow, its proponents reach for emotionalism and over-the-top language. The latest embarrassing example comes from Canadian-born musician Neil Young.

Although he lives on a 1,500-acre estate in California, Young has spent the past week on an anti-oil sands music tour north of the border. The stated goal of these benefit concerts is to raise money for a legal challenge to the expansion of the oil sands.

Ostensibly, Young is concerned about the health and treaty rights of First Nation individuals who live near Fort McMurray, a community of roughly 65,000 in the northern part of the Canadian province of Alberta. But the real target, the ?elephant in the room? as Young himself describes it, is human-caused global warming. (more…)

Ice Core Analysis Shows Fastest Decline in Solar Activity for 10,000 Years

Thames frozen over

Thames frozen over

Solar physicist Richard Harrison says he has never seen the sun this quiet in more than 30 years of studying it.

?If you want to go back to see when the Sun was this inactive? you?ve got to go back about 100 years,? he says.

At this point in the solar cycle the sun should be a hive of activity, popping off flares and dotted with sunspots.

Professor Mike Lockwood, a space environment physicist at Reading University UK has studied ice cores going back tens of thousands of years. He thinks there?s a very good chance that the Sun is heading for an extremely quiet period. Speaking to the BBC  he said that it was

??an unusually rapid decline. It?s a very active research topic at the present time, but we do think there is a mechanism in place where we should expect more cold winters when solar activity is low.? (more…)

Falling temperatures are giving climate alarmists chills

Global warming is nowhere to be found. The mean global temperature has not risen in 17 years and has been slowly falling for approximately the past 10 years. In 2013, there were more record-low temperatures than record-high temperatures in the United States.

At the end of the first week in January, a brutal spell of cold weather settled over most of the country. Multiple cold-temperature records were shattered across the country. Some sites experienced frigid conditions not seen since the 19th century. Chicago and New York City broke temperature records set in 1894 and 1896, respectively. These extremes were not singular, but exemplary of conditions throughout much of the continent. Temperatures in Chicago were so cold that a polar bear at the Lincoln Park Zoo had to be taken inside. The Invisible Judith Curry

Dr. Judith Curry

A bona fide climate scientist tells US Senators we have no idea whether human-caused global warming will be a serious problem. The media doesn?t report it.

Dr. Judith Curry has spent 30 years studying the climate. She currently chairs the School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Testifying before a committee of the US Senate yesterday, this even-tempered, matter-of-fact professor made a number of remarks the public deserves to hear. For example, she referred to human-caused, greenhouse-gas related global warming as:

a theory whose basic mechanism is well understood, but whose magnitude is highly uncertain. [bold added] (more…)

New Paper at SPPI: Risking Lives to Promote Climate Hype

Will global warming alarmists ever set aside their hypotheses, hyperbole, models and ideologies long enough to acknowledge what is actually happening in the real world outside their windows? Will they at least do so before setting off on another misguided adventure? Before persuading like-minded or naïve people to join them? Before forcing others to risk life and limb to transport ? and rescue ? them? If history is any guide, the answer is: Not likely.

New Paper at SPPI – Water Use Effeciency of Trees

Thursday, January 16th, 2014

Source: SPPIIdso - water use of trees

The effect of elevated atmospheric CO2 concentrations on the water-use efficiencies of trees is clearly positive, having been documented in a number of different single-species studies of longleaf pine (Runion et al., 19991), red oak (Anderson and Tomlinson, 19982), scrub oak (Lodge et al., 20013), silver birch (Rey and Jarvis, 19984), beech (Bucher-Wallin et al., 20005; Egli et al., 19986), sweetgum (Gunderson et al., 20027; Wullschleger and Norby, 20018) and spruce (Roberntz and Stockfors, 19989). Likewise, in a multi-species study performed by Tjoelker et al. (1998)10, seedlings of quaking aspen, paper birch, tamarack, black spruce and jack pine, which were grown at 580 ppm CO2 for three months, displayed water-use efficiencies that were 40 to 80% larger than those exhibited by their respective controls grown at 370 ppm CO2. 2,258 Meaningless Search Results

Rebuttal to “2,258 peer-reviewed climate articles

James Powell continues to demonstrate his computer illiteracy by doing worthless database searches in an intellectually dishonest propaganda campaign. He updated his previous meaningless analysis in continued blissful ignorance that the ‘Web of Science’ database does not have a “peer-reviewed” only filter and the existence of a search phrase in a returned result does not determine it’s context. Thus, all that can be claimed is there were 2,258 meaningless search results not “peer-reviewed climate articles” for a query of the ‘Web of Science’ database – with 1 chosen by strawman argument.

1. The context of how the “search phrases” were used in all the results was never determined.

2. The results are padded by not using the search qualifier “anthropogenic”.

3. The 2,258 results cannot be claimed to be peer-reviewed as the Web of Science does not have a peer-reviewed only filter.

4. It is a strawman argument that most skeptics deny or reject that man can have an influence on the climate, but rather if there is any cause for alarm. (more…)

BBC?s Six-Year Cover-Up Of Secret ?Green Propaganda? Training For Top Executives

The BBC has spent tens of thousands of pounds over six years trying to keep secret an extraordinary ?eco? conference which has shaped its coverage of global warming, The Mail on Sunday can reveal. The controversial seminar was run by a body set up by the BBC?s own environment analyst Roger Harrabin and funded via a £67,000 grant from the then Labour government, which hoped to see its ?line? on climate change and other Third World issues promoted in BBC reporting. A lobby group with close links to green campaigners, the International Broadcasting Trust (IBT), promised Ministers the seminars would influence programme content for years to come. –David Rose, Mail on Sunday, 12 January 2014 (more…)

Bitter cold blasts Chicago, a city fighting climate change

by Steve Goreham

CHICAGO, January 7, 2014 ? Chicago was blasted Monday by its coldest weather in 18 years. Sub-zero temperatures and wind gusts of up to 35 miles per hour produced wind chills of minus 40 F. The deep freeze followed a winter storm that blanketed the area with 6 to 10 inches of snow on Sunday. The extreme cold and snow was a natural retort to Chicago?s policies to fight global warming.

On Sunday and into Monday, Chicago was mostly shut down. More than 1,000 flights were cancelled at O?Hare Airport. Chicago public schools and most suburban schools were closed. Northwest Indiana was hit by over 10 inches of lake-effect snow, where officials of Lake County declared a state of emergency, banning all vehicles from snow-covered roads, except emergency vehicles. Turning Cold on Warming

The theory of Global Warming has increasingly become a pop-science joke, as Al Gore and his Hollywood groupies go traipsing about the world in their private jets, leaving a carbon footprint that makes one think of China (if the Chinese have run away with our manufacturing edge, they?re paying a heavy price in health and quality of life). Whatever creditability the theory retains is sinking under the weight of the 18-inch snow I?ve measured in my Michigan backyard.

Over the past few years, proponents have taken to the dodge of talking about Climate Change rather than Global Warming. It?s less definite but still scary.

However, you can sense a decided loss of confidence (not to say panic) spreading among the climate community and its media phalanx. This was evident in recent comments by MSNBC?s Chris Hayes, who reacted strongly to charges by skeptics heard every winter that cold weather proves Global Warming is bunk. As reported by the Washington Examiner? (more…)

America could actually use some global warming right about now.  It is being projected that low temperatures across the Midwest could be 30 to 50 degrees below average on Monday morning.

On Sunday, fans that attempted to tailgate before the playoff game between the 49ers and the Packers at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin were discovering that their beers were actually turning to ice before they could drink them.  That is cold.  But things are going to get really chilly when nightfall arrives.
